Overview
PhotoCheckWP is a WordPress plugin that checks uploaded images against Google’s image index to flag potential copyright matches. This Privacy Policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and how it is protected when you use PhotoCheckWP.
Data We Collect
Plugin Audit Log
PhotoCheckWP stores a local audit log in your WordPress database. This log contains:
- WordPress attachment ID for each uploaded image
- WordPress user ID of the uploading user
- Upload timestamp
- Number of matches returned by the API
- API provider used
- Whether the editor acknowledged the result
- Acknowledgment timestamp if applicable
This data is stored entirely within your own WordPress database. It is not transmitted to PhotoCheckWP, PhotoCheckWP, LLC, or any third party.
License and Account Data
PhotoCheckWP uses Freemius to manage licensing and subscriptions. When you activate a license, Freemius collects your name, email address, and WordPress site URL. This data is governed by the Freemius Privacy Policy, available at freemius.com/privacy.
Google Cloud Vision API
When an image is uploaded to your WordPress media library, PhotoCheckWP sends the image URL to the Google Cloud Vision Web Detection API for analysis. This API call is made using your own Google Cloud API key. Google’s handling of data submitted to the Vision API is governed by the Google Cloud Privacy Notice, available at cloud.google.com/terms/cloud-privacy-notice.
PhotoCheckWP does not receive, store, or transmit your image data. The API call is made directly from your WordPress server to Google’s servers using your credentials.
Data We Do Not Collect
PhotoCheckWP does not collect:
- Image files or image content
- Post content or editorial data
- WordPress user passwords or credentials
- Payment information of any kind
- Analytics or usage telemetry beyond what Freemius collects for license management
Data Storage and Security
All audit log data is stored in your own WordPress database on your own hosting environment. PhotoCheckWP does not operate any external database or cloud storage for plugin data.
Your Google Cloud API key is stored encrypted in your WordPress options table using OpenSSL encryption. It is never transmitted to PhotoCheckWP or PhotoCheckWP, LLC.
Third-Party Services
PhotoCheckWP integrates with the following third-party services:
Freemius — License management and payment processing. Privacy Policy: freemius.com/privacy
Google Cloud Vision API — Image analysis. Privacy Notice: cloud.google.com/terms/cloud-privacy-notice
You are responsible for reviewing and accepting the privacy policies of these services before using PhotoCheckWP.
Your Rights
If you are located in the European Union or California, you may have rights regarding your personal data under GDPR or CCPA respectively. Because PhotoCheckWP does not collect or store personal data directly, most requests should be directed to Freemius for account and subscription data, or to Google for API usage data.
